You are worth more… Matthew 10.29 – 31

Matthew 10:29–31 (NIV) Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

  1. What can sparrows teach us about theology?
  2. What do we learn about God from this passage?
  3. What do we learn about ourselves?
  4. You are worth more than many sparrows. How much more? How much are we worth?
  5. What kind of people does the world value?
  6. Has there been a season in your life when you didn’t feel valuable? Why was that?
  7. What should we do if we don’t feel valuable?
  8. Does it matter how valuable we see ourselves? Why or why not?
  9. If you were tempted to think you are not valuable… What kind of people are valuable?
  10. Is Jesus teaching us that we should think deeply about our value?
  11. Lewis said, “The real test of being in the presence of God is, that you either forget about yourself altogether or see yourself as a small, dirty object. It is better to forget about yourself altogether.”[1] Do you agree? Do you think this is congruent with Jesus’s teaching here?
  12. How do you tend to complete this sentence… “I am valuable if…”?
  13. How can we help each other see ourselves as God sees us?
  14. How can we pray for each other this week?
