Law #12: The Power of the Gospel. Romans 1:16

Romans 1:16 (NIV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

  1. What does salvation mean in this context?
  2. Is salvation just going to Heaven when you die? Or, is there more to it than that?
  3. What is the gospel?
  4. Is the gospel about getting people to go to Heaven when they die? Or, is there more to the gospel than that?
  5. John Newton, who wrote Amazing Grace, summarized the gospel this way: “I am a great sinner, and Christ is a great Savior.” Why is it important that we see ourselves as great sinners?
  6. How does it affect our relationships that we see ourselves as great sinners?
  7. How does it affect out marriages that we see ourselves as sinners married to sinners?
  8. I am a great sinner, and Christ is a great Savior. Why is it important that I understand that I have a great Savior?
  9. Paul’s prayer for the church in Ephesus was that they might, “have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.” Ephesians 3:18–19 (NIV) Why is it important that we know how deeply we are loved by God?
  10. The gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. Believes that God exists? Or, is there more to it than that?
  11. How has the gospel changed you?
  12. The Bible says in another place that we are changed from glory to glory. On and on; more and more. How would you like the gospel to change you further?
  13. How can we pray for each other this week?
