Law #18. The Law of Replacement. Romans 12.21

Romans 12:21 (NIV) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

  1. This is what is known in discipleship as the law of replacement. Overcome evil with good. Let’s imagine you are trying to lose weight. How would you apply the law of replacement in the arena of diet?
  2. I found a blog that says, “The Bible lists over 60 items that we need to “put off” and also informs us what we should be replacing it with.”[1] Can you think of some examples?
  3. Here is one. Ephesians 4:25 “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” (NIV)
Fill in the blanks: replace                                with                                .
  4. Ephesians 4:28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” (NIV)
Fill in the blanks: replace  with                                .
  5. Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (NIV)
Fill in the blanks: replace  with                                .
  6. Why is replacing better than Just say no”?
  7. What do we replace complaining with?
  8. What do we replace gossip with?
  9. What is one habit or activity you would like to stop? What could you replace it with?
  10. How can we pray for each other this week?
