Deeper Discipleship
There is an inverse relationship between the size of the group and the amount of life change.
The smaller the group, the greater the change.
Discipleship means life change
We are out to make disciples. People who love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. People who are marked by the fruit of the Spirit. People who live lives on mission. People who are growing.
People grow, in part, by speaking the truth:
Ephesians 4:15 (NIV) Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
I would have expected this verse to say we grow as we listen to the truth. It doesn’t. It says we grow as we speak the truth to each other. People who speak words of love become more loving. People who speak words of gratitude become more grateful.
The opposite is also true. People who complain become grumpier.
In super-small groups–groups of 2 – 5 everyone gets to speak the truth. Everyone gets to participate. Everyone changes.
21 Laws of Discipleship
A careful study of Scriptures reveals 21 Laws of Discipleship. An obvious and familiar one is the Law of the Mind, based on Romans 12.2 which says we are transformed by the renewing of our minds.
True enough.
But, the same word is used in 2 Corinthians 3:18 and suggests that we are also transformed by worship: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” (ESV)
You would not have to look very hard to discover we are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 12 teaches that we are transformed by God’s discipline. So, we are transformad by…
